SPECIALTY AREAS

So much of what we learn has to do with the opportunities we’re given. Having the right guidance and support can make a real difference in figuring out who you are and what you can achieve. Whether kids come to the Y looking to explore their interests, or for support in navigating challenges, the Y is committed to nurturing children and teens into healthy, contributing adults.

Youth Leadership Academy        Ages 7 – 12
The Youth Leadership Academy nurtures the development of leadership and academic abilities of African American boys, empowering them to improve the quality of their lives and assist them in becoming productive citizens. Our program consists of a focused language arts, math, and leadership curriculum with supplemental field trips to round out this year-round program for boys in grades 2-6. During the school year, the Academy meets every Saturday from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm at the Northside YMCA. Contact the Northside YMCA Center for more information.

Girls Night Out                     Grades 5 – 8
This is a place where a girl can be a girl! At Girls Night Out, young women meet new friends, try new things, and discover who they are and who they want to be. Girls will build confidence while participating in different activities and discussing various topics. They will learn about peer relationships, healthy eating and exercise, body image and focus on being strong in spirit, mind and body. Girl’s Night Out runs from September – May with several field trips and an overnight camp-out in May. Contact your local center for more information.
